MAKIKI — Aalona Monteilh got it done on both sides of the ball and Roosevelt tightened up the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II race as the Rough Riders stifled No. 14 Kaiser, 21-0, at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium on homecoming night.

The Rough Riders snapped the Cougars' seven-game win streak, and Kaimuki's 36-6 win over Pearl City on the same night created a three-way tie for first place in the OIA as all teams have 5-1 records.

"This is our homecoming, this is a big one for us. This team knows what we're capable of," Monteilh said.

Monteilh led the way with three interceptions and hauled in a 38-yard touchdown pass and rushed for a 17-yard score.

Isaac Kaleikau had two picks, and Kaeo Akana had two sacks and a fumble recovery to lead a Roosevelt defense to a shutout win over a Cougars offense that was averaging 36 points per game coming into the contest.

Shepherd Kekahuna had a 47-yard punt return for the first score of the game to make it 7-0.

Sky Ogata passed for 265 yards and a touchdown on 21-of-40 passing, but was intercepted three times and came off the field due to injury at the 3:19 mark in the second quarter. Four plays following the injury, Monteilh added his first rushing touchdown of the season for a 14-0 lead that held up until halftime.

Easton Yoshino found his brother Mason Yoshino for eight yards and a targeting penalty placed the ball on the 35. Easton found Mason again to the Roosevelt 3 for their deepest drive of the game, but Kaiser came away empty-handed. Monteilh intercepted Yoshino in the end zone and took it 100 yards the other way, but the touchdown was nullified due to a block-in-the-back penalty.

Easton Yoshino threw for 88 yards on 10-of-26 passing and was intercepted four times. Brock Perreira came in late in the third quarter and was 6 for 16 with 78 yards and an interception.

Following Monteilh's third pick of the game, six plays later, he added his second touchdown of the night, this time a 38-yard reception for the final score of the night.

"Me and Sky have been working with the deep balls and it came through," Monteilh said.

The Cougars averaged over 300 yards of offense in their past three games, but the 151 yards of net offense against Roosevelt was their second-lowest output all season.

"Last week was a wake-up call," Monteilh said of the loss to Kaimuki. "So our defense had to step up."

Roosevelt's Scott Chung led all receivers with eight catches for 96 yards.

Kamakana Mahiko led Kaiser with four catches for 82 yards and Dre Falls had two interceptions and Jesse Stroede added the other to go along with two tackle for losses.

Roosevelt takes on winless Kalaheo (0-8 overall, 0-6 OIA) at Kailua's Alex Kane Stadium on Oct. 4 while Kaiser hosts Nanakuli (5-3 overall, 4-2 OIA) on the same night.
