Panthers dash Lunas; Raiders cream Cougars


 



Seniors Hannah Jump and Klara Astrom both scored in double digits with five combined 3-pointers as Pinewood (Los Altos, California) poured it on Lahainaluna, 55-19, in the opening round of the Iolani Classic Thursday night at Iolani's Lower Gymnasium.

Jump had a trifecta of treys while Astrom and fellow senior Kaitlyn Leung each added a pair of baskets from beyond the arc. Sophomores Courtni Thompson and Una Jovanovic each also chipped in a 3-pointer.

The Panthers limited the Lunas to just single-digit scoring in the first half and later shut them out of the box score with zero points allowed in the final quarter.

Susitina Namoa led the Lunas with eight points while Taioalo Wolf followed with four.

Three Raiders scored in double figures as host Iolani breezed by Kaiser, 66-40, in the opening round of the Iolani Classic at Iolani's Lower Gymnasium. 

Taylor Wu scored a game-high 18 points and drained four 3-pointers, Jovi Lefotu added 16 points and Kyra Tanabe with 10 as the Raiders advance to face Pinewood at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14. 

The Cougars drop to the consolation bracket to face Lahainaluna at 5 p.m. 

Iolani pounced on Kaiser by outscoring the Cougars, 25 to 7, in the second quarter to take a 42-16 lead at halftime. 

Trinidee Kahunahana led the Cougars with 10 points and Macy Hill added eight in the loss.
