MAKIKI — Roosevelt turned visiting Farrington inside out in a 64-33 OIA East win Friday night.
The Rough Riders established a presence down early on before finding their outside shot as they outscored the Governors in every quarter to improve to 2-0 in league play.
Four players scored in double figures for Roosevelt, led by Taylor Tateyama's game-high 19 points. Tia Sofa followed with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Sadie Ann Luiz added 13 points, seven assists and six boards and Kanilehua Pitoy chipped in 12 points with five rebounds, five assists and four steals to round out the top players for the Rough Riders.
"I think as a team we worked a lot better than we normally do and I'm just proud of what we did tonight," said Luiz, who splashed three triples in the second half.
Roosevelt outscored the Governors (0-2 OIA East) by 14 in the first quarter, 20 to 6, thanks to the effort of Sofa in the post. The 5-foot-9 junior forward poured in 11 points in the period with Pitoy and Luiz finding her down low for some good looks.
Rough Riders first-year coach Joe Cho noted that Sofa was limited to start the year with a back injury.
"She's really only starting to get back into basketball shape now so that's a good thing," said Cho.
Roosevelt continued the strong effort the rest of the way and never looked back as it pulled away for a blowout win.
MJ Lorraine Peralta led Farrington in the loss with 11 points and Setita Prescott came off the bench after the first quarter and provided a spark with nine points, seven rebounds and three steals. Angel Baptista also gave the Governors good minutes with seven points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals before fouling out with 5:39 to play in the game.
