Delos Reyes to retire as Campbell AD

Sam Delos Reyes will retire Wednesday as athletics director at Campbell High School, he said. Delos Reyes has been the school's AD since Jan. 2003.

Assistant AD Rory Pico will serve as AD in the interim, Campbell principal Jon Henry Lee said. Lee said he expects to find Delos Reyes' permanent replacement by October.

If Pico becomes the permanent AD, he will have to relinquish his duties as varsity baseball coach because of a Department of Education rule that fobids athletics directors from coaching unless there is an emergency.

Before becoming Campbell AD, Delos Reyes coached football at Waipahu and Nanakuli high schools. He led the Golden Hawks to an Oahu Interscholastic Assocation football title in 1983. Besides coaching, he also was a basketball referee.

In an unrelated move, Campbell hired Scott De Silva as girls' basketball coach, Delos Reyes said.
