KALIHI — Castle continues to roll through the Oahu Interscholastic Association East Division after dismantling host Farrington, 25-13, 25-17 at Kitamura Gymnasium on Tuesday.

The Knights improve to 6-0 and trails Moanalua (7-0) by a game in the standings after Na Menehune beat Kahuku in three sets. The Governors saw its five-game winning streak snapped to drop to 5-2.

Castle doubled its win total from last year and coach Grant Tolentino attributes the good start to the girls gelling immediately.

"Last year we had three wins and eight losses. This year we're 6-0, this year our girls gelled really early and it really showed, and it was the key was just gelling so early," Tolentino said on the turnaround.

Tiara Hookano and Lindsey Adolpho each had four kills for the Knights, Hookano led the team with five digs and Alexis Kept dished out 11 assists.

Farrington took control early in the set, but the Knights rallied to take a 9-8 lead forcing the Govs to call time out. Castle put together a 6-1 run sparked by Hauoli Beard's kill to force another Farrington timeout and pulled away for good. The Knights took two 10-point leads twice, 21-11 and 23-13 before claiming the first set, 25-13.

"We've been trying to work on is momentum swings and we came out flat. Our practices haven't been as strong as I would like it to be, but the girls proved they could do it and come back. We come out rocky, but I know they will finish strong," said Tolentino.

Whatever momentum gained in the first set carried over to the second set as Castle stormed out to a commanding 9-3 lead. Farrington roared back to bring the game within two, 10-8 after Jerica Vele's ace. The Govs could get no closer as the Knights weathered the rally with a 5-1 run and never looked back to complete the sweep.

"We tried to look at different lineup, but however we finished strong in the first set, we kept it so the momentum would stay on our side, which it did and worked out in our favor," said Tolentino.

Violet Wlliams led all players with five kills, Saryiah Kahakai added four kills and six digs and Vele finished with 11 assists for Farrington.

Castle hopes to keep the streak alive as it hosts Windward rival Kailua (0-6) on Sept. 21. Farrington looks to rebound against Kaiser (1-6) on the same night.
