Host Moanalua defeated Kaiser in four sets, 25-17, 21-25, 30-28, 25-13, in the opening round of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Division I state tournament Monday night.

Na Menehune, the Oahu Interscholastic Association runner-up, will move on to face defending state champion Punahou Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Nalu Demello had 22 kills and Kalai Leopoldo and Duncan Clark each had 12 kills to lead the Moanalua offense.

Jon Stanley had 19 kills and Jacob Summers added 16 more to lead Kaiser in the loss.
