It was a tale of two halves.

Damien outscored Lanai in the second half by 20 points in a 71-58 win in the opening round of the Snapple/HHSAA Division II state tournament at Kalani High's Gymnasium Wednesday night.

Four players scored in double figures to help the Monarchs advance to take on Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II champion and top-seeded Mid-Pacific in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Shania Nakamura led all scorers with 17 points and four assists, Nora Fenton had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, Catherine Votovich added another double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds and Karly Navas chipped in 11 points to round out the Monarchs' leading scorers.

The Pine Lasses were led by Claire Vila, who had 15 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
