MAKIKI — Although No. 6 Farrington's ground-and-pound game was contained all night, the Govs went through the air with two quarterbacks to beat Campbell, 34-14 in an Oahu Interscholastic Association matchup at Roosevelt's Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium on Saturday night.

The Govs (1-0 overall, 1-0 OIA Red) win their opener, while the Sabers (0-2 overall, 0-1 OIA Blue) are looking for their first win of the season.

The Sabers bottled up Farrington running back Challen Faamatau for 46 yards on 23 attempts and held the Govs to 28 net rushing yards for the game. Farrington took what the defense gave them and were able to spread the ball around.

"That was the goal to force them to throw. They ran the ball at-will against us in the past. Our defense gave us good field position, but we have to knock it down," said Campbell coach Amosa Amosa.

"I was happy about. We were short 20 players so I was happy for other guys to step up. If we take what they give and turn it into points as well really helped. We got sloppy with penalties and turnovers to let them back in," said Farrington coach Randall Okimoto.

Bishop Rapoza (8-of-11 passing, 121 yards) and Justin Uahinui (6-of-11 passing, 106 yards) rotated offensive series to combine for 227 yards and four touchdowns.

"I think both quarterbacks had their fair share of plays. They both bring unique tangibles to the game. That's the thing I like about Bishop and Justin, they are different, but we can rely on them," said Kingston Moses-Sanchez, on Rapoza and Uahinui.

"Both guys deserve to play and work hard. They have strengths and we plan to use both of them. It's an ultimate testament to the team game," said Okimoto.

Moses-Sanchez was the biggest playmaker of the night as he finished with eight catches for 147 yards and two scores.

"They told me that this game will be more on me since our other receivers are on probation. They were going to rely more on me, I told them to give me their trust and I will finish it off," added Moses-Sanchez.

"He came up big. The effort he made on those catches, I want the other receivers to emulate and how you go and get the ball," said Okimoto, on Moses-Sanchez.

Farrington took control early thanks to defense and special teams. Iosefo Ah Ching blocked the punt and Samsen Tanuvasa recovered the ball on the Campbell 10 yard line. After three penalties, it took the Govs three plays to get it into the end zone after Freedom Alualu's 1-yard plunge. Alualu's pass to Chad Silva made it 8-0.

Farrington pinned Campbell at their own 1-yard line on the kick off and forced them to go three-and-out. Four plays later, Uahinui found Reginald Faamatau for a 5-yard pass, but the kick failed to make it, 14-0.

Rapoza threw a 33-yard touchdown to Challen Faamatau to complete a nine play scoring drive that covered 92 yards. Faamatau was largely contained by Campbell's defense, but he was a threat as a receiver finishing with 50 receiving yards. Isaiah Taumua intercepted Kawika Ulufale twice in the game and his first interception led to immediate points as Uahinui threw a 60-yard bomb to Moses-Sanchez to put the Govs up, 28-0.

"Our coaches talks about sudden change. We always have to be prepared. When the defense makes an interception and a stop like that and it gets the motivation going," said Moses-Sanchez.

Rapoza and Uahinui combined for 204 yards on 12-of-13 passing at halftime.

The defense was a bright spot, but Campbell had difficulties getting the offense going for most of the game. Ulufale finished with 71 yards on 7-of-37 passing. However, he was able to score two rushing touchdowns—a 3 and 6-yard touchdown, respectively for the Sabers. Campbell's first points came 1:46 before halftime.

"We didn't find those open people and we weren't consistent enough," lamented Amosa. "We stuffed them, but we weren't efficient with our offense."

The Sabers had their own opportunities to put points on the board, but came away empty handed. Andrew-James Reyes recovered a muffed punt and the Sabers got it all the way to the 6-yard line, but turned it over on downs. The Sabers had three fumble recoveries — two set them up nicely in the red zone. Only one fumble recovery led to points after Ulufale ran it in.

"Things were there. If we want to be a good team this year, we have to execute our stuff and keep our composure," said Amosa.

The Govs did most of their damage in the first half, but the second half was a different story as the offense sputtered and Campbell started gaining momentum. Rapoza and Uahinui combined went 2-of-9 for 23 yards in the second half.

Starting at their own 48, Campbell moved the ball and Ulufale found Markus Ramos for a 17-yard gain—their longest pass of the game. They got it down to the Farrington 8, but Ulufale threw his third interception of the game in the end zone to Ah Ching.

Another blocked punt and recovery led to Rapoza's 14-yard touchdown to Moses-Sanchez with over 2 minutes left in the fourth helped put away Campbell for good.

Farrington will host 10th-ranked Kailua on Aug. 20 at Roosevelt, while Campbell goes to Hawaii Kai on Aug. 19 to play Kaiser.
