For the fifth consecutive year, the Pearl City boys and girls swept the Billy Tees/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Bowling State Championships.
The Chargers were followed by Hawaii Baptist in both team competitions and junior Kristopher Yadao won the individual title to lead the boys.
Yadao won easily with a nine-game pin-total of 2,001. Waipahu's Chayen Kuamoo-Malama was second with 1,829 pins and Yadao's Pearl City teammate, Bradley Nakamura was third with 1,777. Damien's Michael Costa (1,744) and Pearl City's Ryan Kajihiro (1,727) rounded out the top five.
The Chargers claimed their sixth conseuctive boys team title with 8,495 total pins, followed by HBA (7,846), Damien (7,782), Moanalua (7,598) and McKinley (7,571).
Leilehua sophomore Gwen Maeha won individual girls' crown with a total of 1,672 pins. Defending champion Shelby Suzuki (HBA) was second with 1,660 pins. Pearl City's Kylie Malilay (1,572) and Kristin Frost (1,564) were third and fourth, respectively, and Campbell's Alexis Bardenas (1,557) finished fifth.
Pearl City won its fifth straight girls team title with 7,469 total pins to hold off HBA, which had 7,416. Mililani (7,075 pins) was third, followed by Maryknoll (6,652) and Leilehua (6,578).
