MANOA — Saint Francis dominated all facets of the game in its 46-6 non-league win over Honokaa at Ching Field at the University of Hawaii Saturday night.

The last time a prep game was played at Ching Field was in 1994, back when it was known as Cooke Field.

"This ambience is great here," said Saint Francis first-year coach Kip Akana. "We're privileged to come here and participate at this field."

The Saints were relatively balanced on offense, passing for 163 yards and rushing for 127 yards.

"We executing on offense and were able to have a balanced attack," said Akana. "We didn't have that in our loss to Konawaena last week. We were able to run the ball and hit open receivers. That was the difference today."

Running back Matt Dacuycuy rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries and sophomore quarterback Scott McLeod completed 50 percent of his passes and rushed for two scores.

Defensively the Saints were able to hold the visiting Dragons to just 59 yards of total offense. The Saints' defense also recorded four interceptions, two of which went for a defensive score. Ezra Inayoshi-Dudoit had two picks and a 54-yard touchdown return to lead the way. Also with interceptions were Wembley Mailei and Micah Kalei.

Saint Francis' front seven were also frequent visitors in the Honokaa backfield as the Dragons finished with negative 20 yards rushing. Supilani Mailei led the effort with a game-high seven tackles and three sacks and forced a safety in the first quarter.

The Saints also added a score on special teams on Isaac Crichton's 37-yard punt return in the second period.

Saint Francis' win would have been a textbook victory if it wasn't for a plethora of penalties, many of which came prior to the snap and after the play was blown dead. A scrimmage even between the two teams broke out near the sidelines in the second quarter.

"Discipline; that's something that we as coaches are trying to stress upon our kids," said Akana. "We need to have awareness of the game situation and not put ourselves in situations that will hurt us."

Jonathan Charbonneau hauled in a 56-yard touchdown pass from Nainoa Falk late in the fourth quarter to give the Dragons their only points of the game.

Honokaa will travel to Keeau in its Big Island Interscholastic Federation opener next Thursday while Saint Francis wraps up its non-league schedule against Murrieta (Riverside, Calif.)
