Mon, Apr 6, 2015 @ Kahuku [ 6:30 pm ]
Na Menehune traveled to Kahuku on Monday and returned with their unblemished league record intact after a 25-17, 25-20 sweep of the home team.
Coming in, the Red Raiders were also unbeaten in league competition but having been bitten by the injury bug were not at their best especially in the first set.
Anticipating a real challenge, Moanalua started well and were dominant in the first set. Kahuku stayed close in the second set with a better block and were down only a point at 19-20. However the Menes got two kills and went on to close out the match. Both teams were plagued with service errors and subpar passing at times resulting in some scrambling play. Austin Matautia with 12 kills and Karson Cruz with 7 kills and two blocks led the winners attack.
Moanaluaʻs coach Alan Cabanting summed it up: "Weʻve got a lot of things to clean up and a lot of things to work on but what I liked today was we got everyone involved, the middles were a lot more involved, and the setters were getting them the right sets. Prior to this, we were struggling with the height of the sets so that was a good plus for this game. It was just unfortunate that one of their better players, who the boys know from club, was not able to play as they decided to hold him out for the playoffs."
Next up for Na Menehune is a Wednesday senior night date with Kaimuki followed by Kamehameha Cup action Thursday through Saturday. Kahuku comes to town on April 6 for a match with McKinley.
