Punahou Invitational opens Friday with four ranked teams


Hawaii teams will get their final tuneup before the regular season at the annual Punahou Invitational boys' basketball tournament.

The double-bracket, 16-team tournament features four teams ranked in ScoringLive's first top 10 rankings of the season. Host Punahou is No. 1 and it will be joined by No. 3 Farrington, No. 4 Kalaheo and No. 5 Maryknoll.

The tournament includes two teams from the Mainland: Wilson, from Oregon, and Mount Pleasant, of San Jose, Calif. Mount Pleasant is coached by Punahou alumnus Ryan Komagome.

The first round opens Friday with quarterfinals set for Saturday. The tournament resumes Dec. 29 and ends Dec. 30.

Game 2: Wilson (Ore.) vs. Kamehameha, 11 a.m.
Game 3: Maryknoll vs. Moanalua, 12:30 p.m.

Game 5: Kahuku vs. Iolani II, 3:30 p.m.
Game 6: Mid-Pacific vs. Kamehameha-Hawaii, 5 p.m.
