Hawaiian Electric Game of the Week
Kailua, Roosevelt face off with first place in East at stake

At least a share of first place in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red East Conference is at stake when undefeated Kailua (4-0) visits one-loss Roosevelt (3-1) Friday.

The division-leading Surfriders are one of just two remaining unbeatens in the OIA (West-leader Campbell, 4-0, is the other). They had a bye Wednesday, while the Rough Riders beat Castle 6-2.

Against the Knights, leadoff-batter Dustin Tsukano went 2 for 3 at the plate and scored twice and second-batter Kainalu Pitoy hit a grand slam in the fourth inning. Riki Kobayashi allowed one run on three hitters with six strikeouts and a walk in six innings of relief to record the win.

Roosevelt's only loss came a week ago when it allowed four runs in two innings late to blow a three-run lead at Kalani.

Kailua's closest game came in a two-run win against Kalani. The Surfriders, who are ranked eighth in the ScoringLive/OC16 Baseball power rankings, plated two in the first inning and Royce Komesu made it stand with a six-hit shutout. He struck out four Falcons and did not allowed a walk.

In its most recent game, Kailua routed Kalaheo, 16-14, on 13 hits and four Mustangs' errors.

First pitch between the Rough Riders and Surfriders is set for 3:30 p.m.

Moanalua, which is tied with Roosevelt for second in the seven-team division, beat Kalaheo 4-3 Wednesday visits Castle (1-3) at 11 a.m. Saturday. Kalaheo (0-5) visits Kaiser (1-2) at 3 p.m. Saturday in the other Red East game this weekend. Kalani (2-2) has a bye.
