WAIPAHU - Goalkeeper Josh Adachi set the tone in penalty kicks and top-seeded 'Iolani beat defending state champion Kalani, 2-1, Thursday night in quarterfinal action of the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Division I state boys' soccer tournament at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.

The Raiders (13-0) will play Kamehameha-Maui (11-0-3) in a semifinal 5 p.m. Friday at the main stadium. The Warriors from Maui beat fourth-seeded Kealakehe, 3-1, in the only quarterfinal to finish in regulation.

Adachi not only made the Raiders' first shot of the penalty kicks phase, but made two saves.

After making the first shot, Adachi then punched out Ryan Bui's attempt to give 'Iolani a 1-0 lead.

KJ Ahlo gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead, but Toshihiro Kosins put one past Adachi to pull Kalani within one.

Dustin Wagner increased the Raiders' lead to 3-1 and it stayed that way when Trey Alves' shot went wide right. The game ended when Timmy Leong converted on 'Iolani's fourth shot.

The Falcons (11-4) took a 1-0 lead on Ryan Abe's goal from six yards at the 30th minute. Kalani took that lead into the half.

Just two minutes into the second half, the Raiders were able to tie the game Aaron Yanagi's header from five yards.

The game remained tie through the rest of regulation and the ensuing two 10-minute sudden-death overtime periods.
