More players with Hawai'i prep ties drafted


More players with Hawai'i high school ties were picked in the final 30 rounds of the 40-round Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

These are the players who were picked:

Saint Louis catcher Iolana Akau, 20th round (611th overall selection), by the Oakland Athletics.

Mid-Pacific catcher Marcus Doi, 25th round (738), picked as an outfielder by the Chicago Cubs.

Campbell University (Ky.) outfielder Ben McQuown (Waianae 2008), 30th round (911) by the Oakland Athletics

Hawaii Pacific University third baseman Kale Sumner (Kailua 2009), 32nd round (974) by the New York Yankees.

Baldwin pitcher Akoni Arriaga, 35th round (1,045) by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Maui High shortstop Mark Karaviotis, 39th round (1,170) by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
