Mid-Pacific, Kamehameha claim state swim titles

Mid-Pacific girls and Kamehameha-Kapalama boys took home state titles in an ILH sweep of the OC16/HHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships held at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

The Owls posted 54.5 points to take home the title, fueled by wins in the 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 medley relay.

On the boys side, Kamehameha-Kapalama held off ILH rival Punahou 60 to 47 to claim the championship. The Warriors topped the podium in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and swept all three relay races (200 medley, 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle), setting meet records in both the 200 freestyle (1:24.56) and 400 freestyle (3:06.69).

Renny Richmond won the 100 butterfly for a historic fourth straight year, besting the field by nearly a second and a half with a time of 48.81.

Island Pacific's Austin Hirstein set a new state mark of 55.91 in the 100 breaststroke topping the previous time of 55.99 held by Punahou's Chris Woo since 1976.

Jasmine Mau set two state records for the girls. The Punahou junior won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:01.78 and then the 100 butterfly title with a mark of 52.78.
