WAIPIO - The Buffanblu moved on to the semifinals with a 1-0 win over Pearl City."I'm very happy that we were able to get past the first round," said Espinoza. "It was a team effort. We started off slow but I think we got the first game jitters out of the way."Antonio Espinoza scored the winning goal for the Buffanblu during the 37th minute of play. The junior followed up on a goal that was initially shot by another Punahou player. After the shot was blocked by the keeper, Espinoza was there for the finish. The goal by Espinoza was his fourth of the season.
KAMEHAMEHA-MAUI 1, IOLANI 0 (PK - 4-3)
Kamehameha-Maui needed 90 minutes of regulation, two overtime periods and one shootout to dispatch Iolani and send the Warriors to the semifinals of the state tournament."I'm really stoked that we won tonight," said Warriors' keeper Devonte Llanes. "it was really unexpected knowing that we are a young team with only four seniors."Iolani got on the board first during the 58th minute of play. Llanes stepped a bit outside of his comfort zone in the goal box and collided with his own teammate. This allowed Keoni Makekau to slip past and score on a wide open goal and put the Raiders up by one. However, during the 79th minute of regulation, misfortune struck the Raiders. A collision inside the box with the Iolani keeper and a Kamehameha-Maui player resulted in a ricocheting ball that bounced off one of the Raiders defender for an own goal against Iolani.Llanes came up big during the shootout, saving two of the five attempts Iolani had. The Warriors won in the shootout, 4-3, and will face Kalani in Friday's semifinals.KEALAKEHE 1, KAPOLEI 0Avery Hardie-Jordan scored the winning goal for Kealakehe in a 1-0 victory over Kapolei. The Waveriders will take on Punahou in a 7:00 p.m. semifinal. For Hardie-Jordan, this will be his first time advancing to the next stage of the tournament against the Buffanblu."It's the first time ever going to the semifinals, pretty stoked about that," said Hardie-Jordan. "We're just pumped right now."A mishandle by the Kapolei keeper lead to the goal for Hardie-Jordan. The score came during the 44th minute of play and was the only score of the game.Kapolei will play Pearl City tomorrow in the consolation bracket.
