WAIPAHU--Kiani Halushka's three goals propelled Kamehameha-Kapalama past Aiea, 4-0 in the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts 33rd Annual Girls Soccer State Championships at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex. The last player to have a hat trick in a State Championship game was Castle's Millie Dydasco who scored four goals in the 1982. She is on Castle's coaching staff.

"What can I say? Perfect timing that's for sure. We were waiting for her to unleash the beast and she did and she had a great game and finished her opportunities when she needed to," said Kamehameha coach Melissa Moore on Halushka's performance.

"All the Saturday practices, waking up at 6 in the morning, all the runnings, night practices definitely the feeling right now is worth it and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I would do it all over again to feel this feeling," said Kamehameha forward Kiani Halushka, as she looked at her teammates lining up to receive their medals.

Kamehameha finished as the runner-up in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and coming into tonight, they outscored their opponents 16-3 in the State Tournament.

"I'm very happy and it's the fourth game in a row and for them to come out to work hard in this last game to play with tired legs and to play through it, it showed their desire and passion to win," said Moore.

Warriors won their eight overall State Championship and last won the state championship in 2012.

"It means a lot, we were here in 2012 and we didn't make it last year and for us to come back and get it done is really special and really huge for our seniors. Both teams had so much passion and energy. Different teams in terms of style of play, the 2012 was technical and this year's team is very aggressive and good in the air," said Moore who coached both teams.

At the 12th minute, Kiani Halushka had an open field and took it down the middle and with the goal keeper to beat, she shot it past Aiea's Taylor Griep-Kadokawa to score Kamehameha's first goal.

"It was a perfectly played through ball and it was one-on-one with the keeper and in those types of situations you have to remain calm and I put it through the right bottom corner of the net," said Halushka.

In the 26th minute, Halushka took a pass from Hannah Kaina and scored her second goal to put the Warriors up 2-0. She almost headed in another goal in the 33rd minute.

In the 36th minute, Halushka scored again after she took a pass from Kapuamakamae Gomera-Stevens, dribbled it to her left and shot it in for her third goal.

"It was nice through balls and I didn't have anyone on me and I turned, cut back shot and it went in and they were really nice, clean goals," said Halushka.

Prior to tonight's game, she scored 16 goals for the season and her season-high was four goals against Mid-Pacific. After tonight's game, she scored 19 goals for the season.

Aiea had a chance in the 39th minute to get on the scoreboard, but Kamehameha's defense was able to clear it out.

"That whole team, not just her, there wasn't one player that was weak on that team, there wasn't one flaw we could capitalize on. We had our chances too, we did show at times we were competing, but overall that team is just solid," said Aiea coach Benji Villaflor.

The Warriors had 11 shots on goal in the first half compared to Aiea's five. Kamehameha finished with 21 shot attempts on goal compared to eight shot attempts by Aiea.

"We are an attack oriented team, we like to push numbers forward and take risks on the offensive side and it's something that we do. Defensively, we just played our kind of defense, solid, high pressure defense and that's our style and that's what we stuck to," said Moore.

"That's the type of team we are. We like to keep the possession and go forward when we can. We have to be calm with composure," added Halushka.

In the 54th minute, Kawaiualani Makue added another goal after she took a cross pass from Janelle Stone to put the Warriors up 4-0 and never looked back.

Aiea knocked off Kapolei yesterday with a 2-1 victory to get to tonight's game and took down Konawaena and Kaiser earlier in the tournament. They finished sixth in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association and finished third in the OIA Red West.

"Our team played great throughout the tournament, no one really expected us to be here. I think we could've put on a better showing but I think getting into this kind of environment, I think the girls were shell-shocked but they tried their best and that's all we could ask for as coaches. It's the farthest our school has ever made it so, I'm very proud of them," said Villaflor.
