Jack Foster threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Everett Kim with 3:57 remaining in the game last night to lift Pac-Five to a 7-3 victory over Kaiser in the opening game of the Father Bray Classic doubleheader at Aloha Stadium.

It was the nonleague season opener for both teams and debut for new Kaiser coach Will Lobendahn.

The game was a defensive struggle throughout, as Kamaka Diaz's 33-yard field goal on the final play of the first half provided the only scoring until Foster's TD pass to Kim in the front right corner of the end zone.

The Wolfpack was able to capitalize two plays after Kahale Fagarang's interception, their fourth of the game, gave Pac-Five pssession at the Waialua 22.

"That was a big break for us," said Foster, who completed 20 of 36 passes for 217 yards without an interception. "When we get that close, we should have a good chance of scoring."

The Wolfpack got another big break three plays after the touchdown, when Ben Keller recovered a fumble on the Cougars' 23-yard line. They lost the ball on downs, but Kaiser had only six seconds remaining without any timeouts and a Hail Mary pass was intercepted by Casey Ebato as time expired.

Lobendahn, a former All-State lineman from Saint Louis, said Cougars all-star running back Josh Gonda did not play because of a hamstring injury.

"He should be back next week," Lobendahn said.
