Moanalua bounced back from a tough loss to second-ranked Farrington last week, defeating Kaimuki on Homecoming Night, 36-0.

The Na Menehune offense caught fire in the first half and the defense created many problems for Kaimuki’s offense, led by speedy senior receiver Sheldon Pagba, who led the way with 2 touchdowns, 1 receiving and 1 rushing.

Despite the homecoming victory and 460 yards of net offense, Pagba felt there was room for improvement.

"I made some key blocks for my teammates and I think on offense I think we could’ve done better." said Pagba.

Moanalua got off to a hot start in the first quarter, taking advantage of favorable field position after a very short punt by Kaimuki, as quarterback Micah Kaneshiro threw his first touchdown pass to Chad Aragon for 24 yards.

After Kaimuki a 3-and-out, Kaneshiro threw lateral pass to Pagba, who ran it in for a 26 yard score. Moanalua went for 2 on the conversion, but the pass in the end zone fell incomplete.

Kaimuki started to gain some momentum, but penalties killed their next drive and they were forced to punt. Three plays later from Moanalua’s 25 yd line, Kaneshiro hit Pagba in stride on a beautiful 75 yd touchdown pass with 11 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Late in the second quarter, Moanalua’s Zarin Augustiro intercepted Kaimuki’s Kainalu Spencer pass in Moanalua territory. A big run by Richard Parham and a pass to Aragon set Moanalua up on Kaimuki’s 33 yardline, and Kaneshiro connected on a 33 yd TD to Donald Lambert with 1:02 remaining in the 2nd quarter.

In the third quarter, Moanalua’s defense stepped up. With 5:22 left in the quarter, Moanalua’s Michael Bender recovered a Kaimuki fumble, which set up a seven-play drive for Na Menehune that resulted in a 21 yd field goal by Landon Ogawa with 1:19 remaining.

After getting the ball back, Kainalu Spencer was intercepted again this time by Moanalua’s Chris Owens, and on the ensuing possession Richard Parham scored on a 45 yd TD run with 4 seconds left in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Kaimuki tried to take advantage of a Kaneshiro interception by Dathan Lloyd midway through the quarter, putting together a decent drive but the field goal try at the end of the game was no good.

Kaimuki’s Fano Tuisila led the team with 7 catches for 51 yards.

Moanalua goes to 3-3 overall while Kaimuki is still searching for their first win of the season at 0-6.
