Moanalua Camp draws more than 280

The First Annual Moanalua & Kalakaua Basketball Camp was held at Moanalua High School Gym from Tuesday, June 7 to Friday, June 10.

The four-day camp had over 280 participants from around the state and featured Coach Dennis Agena of Kalakaua Basketball, Greg Tacon of Moanalua High School, and Mike Taylor of Punahou School.

Coaches and players from Kalakaua, Punahou, Iolani, Mid-Pacific, Moanalua, and many other high schools also volunteered their time to assist with the event. The camp focused on skill development, fundamentals of basketball, and character education.

Coach Taylor was ecstatic with the turn-out. "What a great 4 days and 32 hours of teaching it was! We had over 280 eager, hard working, and enthusiastic campers from all over the state! It was fun working with the other staff members and our camp counselors from Kalakaua and Moanalua! Mahalo to all for their support!"

Coach Agena echoed similar sentiments. "I was so happy with the effort that the kids put forward. We are always trying to teach the kids so much more than the game of basketball. We are equipping the students with skills that will enable them to contribute to their community, team, school, and family. All of the campers came to learn. They demonstrated hard-work, perseverance, humility, and most of all, a love of learning."
