Quintin Torres-Costa threw a six-hit shutout to lead third-seed Waiakea to a 5-0 win over Castle in the quarterfinals of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Baseball Division I State Championships.

Waiakea took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a Korin Medeiros double that brought home Kean Wong, and extended to a 2-run margin on a Davy Camacho RBI base knock.

Castle would make things interesting in the middle innings, but Torres-Costa would pitch his way out of trouble in both the fourth and fifth, recording strikeouts to retire the side in each inning to strand a two pairs of runners.

The Warriors would create some more breathing room in the top of the seventh, bringing home two runs on a Korin Mederios base hit and subsequent fielding error, and another on a single by Kodi Medeiros that brought home brother Korin from third.

Torres-Costa would come in and finish the job in the seventh for a complete game shutout, scattering six hits, striking out eight and walking just one.

Offensively, Korin Mederios would lead Waiakea with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, including 2 RBIs, and Davy Camacho would add another RBI on a 2-for-4 performance on the afternoon.

Waiakea will face the winner of Wednesday's 5:00 p.m. quarterfinal between ILH champ Mid-Pacific and defending state champion Pearl City.
