Waiakea tops Roosevelt in historic 3OT victory

The triple-overtime marathon between the Rough Riders and Warriors was only the second game to go three extra frames in the 36-year history of the tournament.
Waiakea, the Big Island Interscholastic Federation runner-up, improved to 12-1 in the regular and postseason and will face No. 3 seed and Maui Interscholastic League champion Lahainaluna (14-0) in today's 5 p.m. quarterfinal at Moanalua.
Roosevelt fell to 10-7 and will face Kaimuki (15-3) in today's 3 p.m. consolation bracket game.
Daven Namohala-Roloos scored 16 points, Ciera Pacheco added 15 points and Alyssa Ferreira chipped in with 13 points for the Warriors.
Chelsea Wong led the Rough Riders with 16 points and Kira Arruda added 13 points.
Kahuku 39, Kamehameha 35
Leilani Paselio scored 10 points to help the Red Raiders (12-4) hold off the Warriors (8-7) and advance to today's 7 p.m. quarterfinal against No. 4 seed and O'ahu Interscholastic Association champ Pearl City (13-1) at McKinley.
The Red Raiders led 13-4 after one period and 20-13 at halftime before Kamehameha closed it to 28-22 entering the fourth quarter.
The Warriors will play Maui High (8-7) in today's 3 p.m. consolation bracket game.
Kaiser 53, Maui 24
Micaela Bitanga scored 14 points and Chandler Arce and Darcey Goulsby each added 10 points to help the Cougars (13-3) advance to today's 5 p.m. quarterfinal against No. 1 seed and BIIF champion Konawaena (12-0).
Kaiser led, 19-4, after one period and 28-8 at halftime.
The Sabers fell to 8-7.
