Waipahu girls upset Kapolei, 1-0

WAIPAHU - The Waipahu Marauders stunned the Kapolei Hurricanes with a 1-0 upset Thursday night. The Marauders (2-3-0) got the early lead and held off the previously undefeated Hurricanes to pull off the upset.

"It's kind of a miracle," said Waipahu Head Coach Elaina Paredes. "I'm really proud of the girls for not letting up and continuing to play hard all the way."

The 1st goal came early in the first half as Waipahu's Jahna Tacson scored on a free kick in the 6th minute of the game.

"After that goal, we played total team defense," said Coach Paredes. "We had faith in our girls and we kept our head up the whole time."

Tacson, who was last year's OIA White Player of the Year last season, came into this game with 2 goals in the past four games.

"She's really improved her style of play," said Coach Paredes. "She has become a more whole player not just an individual player."

Kapolei, who previously outscored opponents 17-2 this season, we shut out by the Marauders. The loss tonight marks their first loss of the season.

"Kapolei played excellent. They fought really hard," said Coach Paredes. "To be honest, they dominated the game. We took advantage of the one opportunity that we did have and we were able to fend them off."
