The Vikings held off a seventh inning rally to defeat the Mules, 6-5, in the first of four opening round games of the 53rd Annual Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA Baseball State Championships at Murakami Stadium.

Dustin Tagawa went the distance for Hilo, allowing four runs on eight hits, with a walk and three strikeouts to earn a complete game victory.

Leilehua's Kenan Sadanaga went 3-for-3 with two doubles in the loss.
