Moanalua sweeps past Waipahu in OIA playoffs

Richard Harpole spiked a match-high 12 kills and added two blocks and two aces Tuesday to help Moanalua sweep past Waipahu, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association boys volleyball playoffs.

The Red Conference Eastern Division champion Na Menehune remained undefeated at 14-0 in league play and will face Pearl City (8-7) in today's semifinals at about 6 p.m. at McKinley's Student Council Gym.

Moanalua took control early yesterday, jumping out to a 7-2 lead in the first set and not allowing Waipahu (9-5) to get closer than two points the rest of the way. Na Menehune then used a 5-0 run to open up a 16-8 lead in the second set and won going away.

Moanalua took leads of 5-1, 17-11 and 22-14 in the third set to clinch the victory.
