WAIPAHU -- Punahou got goals from Kaimi Fairbairn, Mountan Mitchell, Alex Lam and Quincy Marting -- all in the second half -- yesterday to race past Hilo, 4-0, in the JN Automotive Group/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Boys Soccer State Championship quarterfinals.

The Buffanblu improved to 9-2-1 in the regular and postseason and will face No. 2 seed and O'ahu Interscholastic Association champ Kapolei (11-5-1) in today's 7 p.m. semifinal at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Hilo fell to 14-2-1 and into today's 3 p.m. consolation bracket game against Baldwin (7-3-4) on Field 8.

Fairbairn broke a scoreless tie with a penalty kick goal in the 53rd minute. Mitchell made it 2-0 in the 61st minute, Lam added another goal six minutes later and Marting closed it out by scoring in the game's final minute.


KAISER 3, KING KEKAULIKE 2

Joshua Perry-Kruse sandwiched goals in the sixth and 58th minutes around Brandon Ale's 17th-minute score to help the OIA runner-up Cougars improve to 13-2-2 and advance to today's 5 p.m. quarterfinal against No. 1 seed and Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Kamehameha (8-1-2).

Logan Bantilan scored in the 72nd and 79th minutes, but Na Ali'i were held scoreless before that despite getting four golden opportunities in the first 35 minutes.

King Kekaulike (8-4-1) will play Mililani (12-3-2) in today's 3 p.m. consolation bracket game at Field 7.

CONSOLATION BRACKET

ROOSEVELT 1, 'AIEA 0

Brad Pena scored 32 seconds into the game to lift the Rough Riders, who improved to 8-6-4 and will face Waiakea (13-3-2) in tomorrow's 3 p.m. consolation final on Field 7.

Na Ali'i end their season at 8-7-3.

WAIAKEA 4, MOANALUA 1

Austin Thomas scored in the 9th and 30th minutes and Cameron Boucher added goals in the 45th and 66th minutes to lift the Warriors past Na Menehune, who got a goal from Brett Rex in the 68th minute but ended their season at 7-8-3.
