Kaiser blanks Moanalua to keep pace atop OIA East D1 standings

Kaiser made up for a loss earlier in the season to on the road to Moanalua with a 4-0 victory over Na Menehune, this time back at the friendly confines of its home stadium.

Keira Uegawachi threw a complete game two-hitter, striking out one and walking three, and helped her own cause batting 1 for 3 with an RBI.

The Cougars set the tone from the opening inning, taking a 1-0 lead on as Trendee Kahunahana scored on an error, then made it a 2-0 game on Uegawachi's single that brough home Rylee Yamasaki.

Kahunahana, who batted 3 for 4, made it a 3-0 game with a bunt single in the second that scored Rylan Nakamura, and Yamasaki capped off the scoring for the game with a RBI double to left that brought home Kaile Otani.

From there, Uegawachi and the defense did the rest, holding Na Menehune to just a single in the third by Kayla Mashino and a double by Emily Tome in the fifth.

The win keeps Kaiser in the thick of the race for the top spot in the OIA East standings, where it shares first place with Kalani at 8-1.

The two teams are set to face off on April 11, conceivably with the top seed in the playoffs on the line, though Kalani's other two remaining games (vs. Kailua, vs. Moanalua) pose a tougher road than does Kaiser's (vs. Kaimuki, at Castle).
