Last second equalizer helps Punahou earn draw against Kamehameha

If the wish was for some clarity as to who the team to beat in Division I girls soccer was, round one between top ranked Punahou and second ranked Kamehameha provided not much in the way of answers.

The first of two meetings between the two ILH powers ended in a 1-all draw. setting up what could be a winner take all finale to close out the regular season when the two teams meeting again on Jan. 21.

Kamehameha's Kamryn Kaleiohi broke through with the game's first goal in the 76th minute, leaving the home team with four minutes to search for the equalizer.

That answer came in the final minute of play, when Punahou was awarded an indirect free kick after an illegal direct pass back to keeper and Ellie Gusman stepped up and booted through the tying score with just seconds left in the match.

The goals scored by each team in this contest marked the first scores allowed by either team this season. Prior to today's tilt, the Warriors outscored opponents by a 25-0 margin and the Buffanblu a goal better at 26-0.
