Damien and Hawaii Baptist to meet in Division II semifinal

Damien and Hawaii Baptist is moving on in the New City Nissan Division II Girls Volleyball Championships.

Both the Monarchs and the Eagles came away with quarterfinal wins Wednesday night over third-seeded Seabury Hall and second-seeded Konawaena respectively at Saint Louis.

The two teams will meet in the first semifinal match at Kalani's Earl C. Holmer Gymnasium Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

Kiana Cueto put down 18 kills with eight digs and two aces and Kaila Kalama-Bajet added 17 kills with two blocks and two aces to power Damien to a 19-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-19 win over the Spartans.

Makalani Carey led Seabury Hall in the loss with 21 kills, nine digs and four aces, three of which came in consecutive fashion to take set one.

Marissa Nakata led all attackers with 17 kills, nine digs and two solo blocks to lead HBA over the Wildcats in a straight set sweep, 25-16, 25-18, 25-13. Sydney Hankey added nine kills and Caitlin Wong had eight more to round out the Eagles' attack.

Kaelyn Shibuya had nine kills and two aces to lead Konawaena in the loss.
