Waipahu tops Kailua to complete undefeated regular season run

Led by Liatama Uiliata at the controls and Anieli Teleaai on the ground, Waipahu completed an undefeated run through its OIA Division I campaign with a 26-16 win over Kailua.

Teleaai carried the ball 21 times for 139 yards and a score and Uiliata completed 17 of 30 passes for 207 yards and another, as the Marauders posted its sixth league win and seventh overall.

Kai Fraser gave Kailua the early lead with a 30 yard field goal at the 1:34 mark of the first quarter, but Waipahu responded with its first score in the opening minute of the second when Uiliata found Jayvren Pinera on a 20 yard pitch and catch to take a 7-3 advantage.

Midway through the second the Marauders padded the margin on a six yard run by Teleaai to make it 14-3, but the home team brought the margin back to single digits at the 4:27 mark when Maa Fonoti found Romeo Ortiz on a 58 yard pass play.

Waipahu tacked on a 27 yard field goal by Xavier Transfiguracion and a TD run by Braeden Togafau in the third quarter to make it 23-10 heading into the fourth, but an 82 yard connection from Ortiz to Jathan Bejarano at the 10:31 mark of the fourth brought Kailua within a single score.

That would be as close as the Surfriders would get however, as Transfiguracion tacked on a 34 yard field goal at the 6:37 mark to extend the Marauders' lead back to double digits.

Waipahu held Kailua to just 185 yards of total offense.
