MAKIKI—Visiting Kalani played spoiler and swept Roosevelt on their senior night 25-23, 25-10, 25-20 at the Rough Riders' gymnasium Monday.

A capacity crowd witnessed Raymie Lum put down 19 kills and three service aces, Haylee Lyons chipped in 13 kills and an ace, and Ayre Takamoto dished out 29 assists to help the Falcons win back-to-back games to improve to 7-2 in OIA East play.

Riding the momentum and energy from the crowd, Yaeko Oyama landed two consecutive aces to give Roosevelt a 12-8 lead in the first set. Lum went to work and tied the set at 12 with three-straight kills.

There were five lead changes until the Falcons started pulling away and led by four. The Rough Riders clawed back to tie the set at 23 after Diamen Brown's kill, but Nakamoto's dump off and Lyons' kill claimed the first set, 25-23.

The Rough Riders got the first two points of the second set, but it was all Kalani from there. The Falcons pushed the lead to 10, 18-8 after Lum's ace and dominated the rest of the set with a 7-2 run to close it out.

The third set started out with 10 lead changes and Kalani started pulling away after capitalizing on Roosevelt miscues. The Falcons sustained a five-point cushion but the Rough Riders came charging back to get within two, 22-20 after Oyama's kill. Kailee-Lei McKee went to Lyons for the kill and Lum added consecutive kills to clinch the match.

Brown led the Rough Riders with seven kills, Dylan Hall added six kills, Oyama had seven digs, and Piilani Hirahara had 15 assists as Roosevelt ends the OIA regular season with a 5-5 record.

Kalani hosts No. 8 Moanalua on Wednesday, Oct. 5 to conclude the regular season.
