BELLFLOWER, Calif. — From start to finish, the Kahuku Red Raiders gave it all that they could Saturday night.

It just wasn't enough against the No. 1 ranked team in the country.

St. John Bosco scored in every quarter and controlled the line of scrimmage to beat Kahuku, 34-7, in its first home game of the year before a standing-room only crowd of over 5,000 fans at Panish Family Stadium.

The Red Raiders (5-1) saw their 15-game winning streak come to an end with the defeat as they suffered their first loss since 2019.

Kahuku avoided the shutout with Waika Crawford's 30-yard touchdown pass to Aiden Manutai late in the fourth quarter, which erupted a celebration from the many Kahuku fans that made the trip.

"We gave it our all," said Kahuku senior safety Brock Fonoimoana. "We just kept playing, fighting play after play. I'm happy for my boys and I love my community."

The Red Raiders may have got the last score in, but it was all St. John Bosco for majority of the game as the Braves (4-0) did not punt till the fourth quarter and outgained Kahuku, 403 to 236.

St. John Bosco used a strong rushing attack against Kahuku with 279 total yards on the ground. Cameron Jones led the way with 12 carries for 89 yards and two scores and Chauncey Sylvester had nine carries for 63 yards and a 1-yard TD on the first play of the fourth quarter.

The Braves also scored on a reverse to receiver DeAndre Moore and Pierce Clarkson's lone TD pass was on play-action to Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa to give the home team a 21-0 lead at the break.

St. John Bosco was never forced to punt until midway through the fourth quarter. The Red Raiders' defense did force the only turnover of the game however. Fonoimoana intercepted Clarkson right in front of the goal line in the first quarter for an early highlight.

Crawford threw for 216 yards on 24-for-33 passing in the loss as Kahuku could not get anything in the run game and finished with just 15 yards rushing.

Kaimana Carvalho was the top receiver for the Red Raiders in the game. The Kahuku sophomore had the best game of his career to date with 10 receptions for 108 yards.

"Their defensive front is solid," said Carvalho. "We was just thinking we can get it out to our players in space and do damage on the outsides."

The Red Raiders will have a short turnaround when they travel to Kapolei next Friday.
