Farrington beats Kaimuki in straight sets for first sweep of the year

Farrington earned its first sweep of the year with a 25-12, 25-11, 25-20 win over visiting Kaimuki Wednesday afternoon in an OIA East match at Richard Kitamura Gymnasium.

Three players finished with double digit kills to power the Governors, who improved to 2-0 in league play. Jorja Williams led all attackers with 15, Abelyn Toliai put down 11 from the middle and Aleejah Sunia rounded things out with 10 kills. Middle blocker Madison Pasion was also excellent with five kills and three block assists.

Mahealani Kinere, Zelda Tulafono and Shenna Palik all had four kills to lead the Bulldogs (0-3) in the loss.

While Kaimuki made Farrington work for points with strong defense in the back row in the final two sets, the Govs saw little resistance in the opening stanza. Seven service aces from five different players also helped Farrington take the first set with ease.

The second set was much closer at the start. A pair of kills from Palik sandwiched by a Farrington error saw the Bulldogs take their first lead in a game, 8-7. Palik also regained the lead after taking a set from Kira Rose Moananu to make the score 9-8 in the visitors favor.

A service error against the Bulldogs however tied the game which allowed Farrington to go on a mini 5-0 run that saw Sunia put down two kills and combine for a block with Pasion to give the Govs a 13-9 lead, forcing a Kaimuki timeout.

The Bulldogs won the point out of the timeout thanks to a long rally, but it was all Farrington the rest of the way. After Sunia got a kill from the right side thanks to the feed from Mila Aiwohi (27 assists), she got back to the service line and was able to get Kaimuki out of system with her serves to the tune of a 11-0 run that the Govs rode to a 25-11 victory.

The third set was the most competitive of the night with seven instances where the game was tied. It wasn't until the score was 18-18 when Farrington started to pull away. Williams and Toliai each had three kills down the stretch to give the Govs the five-point win in the final set.

Farrington will host Castle next Monday while the Bulldogs host Kahuku.
