No. 15 Hilo put last week's 28-20 non-league loss to Lahainaluna in the rear view mirror Friday night as they dominated Kealakehe, 52-2, at Paiea Stadium to begin BIIF Division I play.

The Vikings took advantage of seven takeaways to bounce back from a slow start after giving up a holding penalty in the end zone for a safety midway through the first quarter.

Quarterback Kaohu Kaluna aired it out in Hilo's win over Kealakehe, completing 13 of his 17 pass attempts for 269 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed six times for 70 yards and two TDs.

Kaluna's backfield mate in running back Xiah Kanae, was also stellar with 11 carries for 104 yards and two scores, which included a 46-yard scamper to pay dirt for the first TD of the contest.

The Vikings came away with four interceptions in the game, with the final one turning into a 23-yard pick-six by Robert Pule-Annes in the fourth quarter to cap the game's scoring.

Running back Lawrence Nahakuelua led the Waveriders in the loss with 19 carries for 91 yards.
