No. 5 Campbell wipes out Kailua in season opener

EWA BEACH — Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele tossed three first-half touchdowns in his Campbell debut to lead the No. 5 Sabers past Kailua, 34-0 on their home field Friday.

Sagapolutele finished the first half with 230 yards on 9-of-13 passing and connected with three different receivers for touchdowns.

The Sabers (1-0 overall) struck early to get on the scoreboard after Sagapolutele found Mason Muaau near the back of the right corner of the end zone.

Chauncee Lopez followed up with a 10-yard rushing touchdown for a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

Sagapolutele threw a strike to Jourdain Berinobis-Pyne down the middle for 25 yards, but the PAT was blocked.

Rowen Bucao turned a short pass into a 49-yard score after he turned on the jets to put the Sabers up, 27-0.

Dallas Fonseca-Juan set up Tana Togafau-Tavui's direct snap from 2 yards out for the final points of the game.

The Sabers host Waipahu (1-0 overall) on Saturday, Aug. 20 while the Surfriders (0-1-1 overall) go to John Kauinana Stadium to face Mililani (1-1 overall) on the same night.
