KAILUA — The Kailua cruised to a 3-0 victory over Waipahu in the first round of the OIA Division I boys soccer tournament.

The Surfriders started the game off with a dangerous opportunity in the 8th minute. Freshman Brody Person ran onto a loose ball and had a one-on-one chance against the keeper, but Person's chip went off target.

Kailua continued to pepper the Waipahu goal with shot after shot. Person fired a bullet strike on goal, but the Waipahu keeper once again came up big with a two-handed save.

Eventually Kailua was rewarded with a goal in the 18th minute. Connor Reece and Kai Frazer played a short corner play and then Reece lofted a cross over the goalkeeper for Allan Gabriel Donis-Sablan to head it in from close range.

The Marauders nearly responded instantly when Kailua gave up a freekick outside of the penalty box. Kohl Nakamura hit a curling effort on goal, but Kailua keeper Matthew Mashiba batted the ball out of harm's way.

Doris-Sablan scored again for Kailua in the 33rd minute when he hit a long ball, from inside his own half, that bounced over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net.

Kailua scored their third and final goal in the 54th minute. Person ran on to a loose bouncing ball and rifled a shot into the roof of the net from close range.

The Surfriders will travel to face West 2nd Seed Kapolei in Kapolei while Waipahu ends their season with a record of 3-7-1.
