Davis scores late goal for Kalaheo in season capping win over Roosevelt

Kalaheo ended their season on a high note with a defeat of host Roosevelt 1-0 at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium Saturday night.

Central midfielder Dixon Davis' goal in the 74th minute helped the Mustangs finish tied with Moanalua for 6th place in the OIA East Division I standings.

Roosevelt started the game off with early possession and kept the pressure on the Kalaheo backline.

The Mustangs were able to bend but not break and eventually found their footing. The Mustangs created the first few chances on goal, but Roosevelt goalkeeper Micaiah Garan made a couple routine saves for the Rough Riders.

Roosevelt had the best chance of the first half when a Rough Rider forward ran on to a through ball, but Kalaheo goalkeeper Alexander Mia made a diving save to protect his goal.
After the halftime break, both teams started to break each other down. Roosevelt had a golden scoring opportunity in the 44th minute but Mia came up big again for the Mustangs with two more point-blank saves. Mia made a total of 4 saves.

In the 50th minute, it was Garan's turn to make a heroic save when he stuffed Kalaheo's Nicolas Cicchi in a one-on-one situation. Garan also ended the night with 4 saves.
Roosevelt nearly took the lead in the 70th minute when Porter Ellis hit a wicked shot from just outside the 18 yard box, only to be denied by the crossbar.

The game was heading for a 0-0 draw until Davis kicked the game winner in the 74th minute. Dixon dribbled, aimed, and fired a well placed ball from long range that just beat the outstretched hand of Garan into the bottom right corner.

Despite the win, the Mustangs just missed out on making the OIA playoffs via tiebreaker with Moanalua. Both teams finished the regular season with 15 points each, but Kalaheo lost 1-0 to Na Menehune earlier in the season.

The Mustangs only chance at sneaking into the playoffs was if Castle lost its final game, but the Knights won 10-0 at home against Farrington.

As for the Rough Riders, they finished atop the OIA East Division II Standings and will be one the top seed out of the East in the upcoming league playoffs.
