Moanalua scores late goal to eke past Kahuku

SALT LAKE — Moanalua rallied late to defeat Kahuku 1-0 on Thursday night as Ally Helbush's goal in the 70th minute helped keep Na Menehune a perfect 5-0 so far this season.

Na Menehune remain in second place in the OIA East division standings, a game behind Kaiser, while the Lady Red Raiders fell into a tie for 4th place with a record of 3-2-1.

The first half was dominated by Moanalua as they held the majority of the possession. However, the Red Raiders had the best scoring opportunity with a free kick that just narrowly missed wide a few minutes before halftime.

Kahuku goalkeeper Apetahi Anderson made five saves in the first half and a total of eight for the match.

In the second half, Kahuku started to push more numbers forward and were the ones looking to take the lead. At around the 55th minute, the Lady Red Raiders won another free kick on the right side just outside of the 18 yard box. The Kahuku player wiped the ball hard on goal, but the Moanalua keeper made a diving save to keep the score at 0-0.

Moanalua railled after that save, creating chance after chance, but were lacking the final ball until the 70th minute, where after winning a corner kick on the far side of the field, Skylor Hayes curled a ball in near post that pinballed around until Helbush tapped it in from close range for her fourth goal scored this season.

Moanalua will look to continue their winning streak this Saturday at home against Roosevelt while Kahuku will also play on Saturday against Castle.
