Kaimuki's ground game downs McKinley for second win of season

Kaimuki notched its second win of the year with a 55-34 win over McKinley at Roosevelt's Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium, but ithe Tigers weren't about to make it easy.

Running back Ofa Vehikite had 14 rushes for 146 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Sionepaongo Taufa added 115 yards and two more scores on just 10 carries, while Aven Tanioka had three rushing touchdowns to go along with 60 more yards.

In all, Kaimuki amassed 473 yards of total offense, 362 of it coming via the ground game.

A comfortable 34-7 halftime advantage whittled down thanks to a flurry of scoring for the home team Tigers, who scoring 21 straight points between the 6:42 mark of the third quarter and the 7:07 of the fourth, when Dustin Chow hit Ethan Duaong for his fourth scoring pass of the evening.

But Kaimuki responded with scores of its own following both fourth quarter scores by McKinley, capped by Tanioka's six yard scoring run that effectively put the game out of reach.

Dustin Chow led the aerial attack of the Tigers, compelting 18 of 33 passes for 379 and five touchdowns. Michael Papa had a game high 169 receiving yards and a score.

The only two non-rushing scores for Kaimuki were both scored by Jeremiah White, one via a 75 yard punt return and the other a 44 yard bomb from Taufa.
