Pearl City wears down Kaimuki to post Homecoming victory

Pearl City moved back to even in the win-loss column with a 27-0 win over Kaimuki in front of a Homecoming Night crowd at Beno Neves Stadiun.

Sefo Feesago threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns and added another score on the ground, and Joshua Gleason had five receptions for 103 yards and a score to lead the Chargers, who outgained Kaimuki, 336 to 132.

The game began with two procedural penalties, one by each team, as both teams came out slow out of the gates.

Kaimuki marched well into the red zone looking primed to score first, but a fumble proved costly, and it ultimately was Pearl City that struck first with 2:21 left in the first quarter as Feesago kept the football on the quarterback option and slashed up the middle for a score from six yards out.

Then at the 7:54 mark in the second, Mark Moreno intercepted an overthrow on a Kaimuki pass attempt and took it back 35 yards for the Chargers' second score of the half. Marcus Rodriguez knocked home the extra point to make it 13-0.

Feesago found Gleason on a 12 yard post play to make the count 20-0, and the Chargers all but put the game out of reach with a drive late in the third on a one yard toss from Feesago to Rodriguez that was set up by a 43 yard bomb from Feesago two plays prior.

The Bulldogs were stout for much of the evening on defense, led by Draven Pooi-Feleunga who recorded three tackles for loss and a sack, but ultimately the visitors were stung by chunk plays by the Chargers, which included five pass plays of 20 yards or more and six runs of at least 13 yards.

Rodriguez missed three long field goal attempts from 51, 47 and 49 yards out. All were online but fell just short of the uprights.

Three games remain for the Chargers, on the road on Black Friday against Waialua, then two home games against McKinley on Dec. 3 before closing out the regular season against Kalani on Dec. 10.

Kaimuki can even out their record with wins in their final three games, on the road against McKinley on Nov. 27, then home games at Farrington's Edward "Skippa" Diaz Stadium at Kusunoki Field against division leading Kaiser on Dec. 3 then Waialua on Dec. 10.
