Kahuku scored in all three phases in a rout of Kapolei in both teams' Oahu Interscholastic Association regular season openers, 41-7.

The Hurricanes struck first with 3:09 left in the opening quarter, as Tuli Tagovailoa-Amosa found Mason Gomez for a four yard pitch and catch to lead 7-0, but on the ensuing kickoff, Kainoa Carvalho got the Red Raiders on the board with a score on a 92 yard return, then added the extra point to knot the game at 7-all.

From there, it was all Kahuku.

The Red Raiders relied on its aerial attack to build a lead, scoring three times on two touchdown receptions by Carvalho, and then one more by Kealoha Kaio, all courtesy of the arm of Jason Mariteragi. The senior signal caller completed 15 of 20 passes for 199 yards.

With a 21 point advantage in the back pocket, the Red Raiders' defense proceeded to put the game out of reach with a pair of pick-sixes, one by Leonard Ah You, and the other a team effort, as Chansen Nicodemus-Garcia picked the pass and headed the other way before eventually lateralling the ball to James Taufa, who crossed the goal line for the score.

The Kahuku defense finished the evening with six sacks and three interceptions, and also broke up three passes.

Kainoa Carvalho led all pass catchers with seven receptions for 96 yards and racked up 227 all purpose yards.
