Kailua's opportune hitting trounces Kaiser

HAWAII KAI — Kailua didn't fill the stat sheet with hits, but opportune hitting to capitalize on Kaiser's errors helped the visiting Surfriders trounce the Cougars, 11-1, in six innings to open Oahu Interscholastic Association play Wednesday afternoon.

Kailua totaled just five hits but batted in eight runs with six of those initially reaching base on an error, walk or hit batsman.

The first of the Surfriders' opportune at bats came in the first inning when Keanu Kalaola smashed a three-run home run for the early lead.

Kailua piled on in the fourth and fifth innings where the Cougars combined to give up seven free bases to batters and committed five errors.

Kimo Wilinski was solid going the distance on the mound for the Surfriders with just one earned run given up.

The Surfriders next host Kalani on Saturday at 3 p.m. while Kaiser travels to Makiki to play Roosevelt.
