No. 5 Sabers fend off Seariders


Quarterback Blaine Hipa passed for 276 yards and four touchdowns and No. 5 Campbell fended off visiting Waianae, 41-31, Saturday night in Ewa Beach.

The Sabers improved to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Open Division. The Seariders (1-5, 0-4) have dropped five in a row since their non-league season opener.

With the win, Campbell also secured a spot in the four-team OIA Playoffs along with Mililani (4-0, 6-1) and Kahuku (3-1, 5-2).

Hipa completed 18 of 29 passes with TD strikes of 20 and 57 yards to Titus Mokiao-Atimalala and 5 yards to Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala and 14 yards to Zavier Ceruti. Hipa also rushed for a 5-yard TD. The Mokiao-Atimalala's combined for 12 catches for 197 yards. Titus had five receptions for 135 yards.

Running back Jonan Aina-Chaves led the ground game with 150 yards rushing, including a 3-yard TD, for Campbell.

Waianae QB Sheldon McLeod accounted for four TDs. He passed for three on 13-of-25 passing for 147 yards and had a 16-yard rushing TD.

Running back Alvin Quisqurin-Sabagala led the Seariders with 137 yards rushing on 29 carries. He also had a TD reception.

Waianae will be seeking its first league win at Farrington (1-2, 1-5) on Friday, while Campbell will host Punahou (4-1, 6-1) on Saturday.
