KANEOHE — Leilehua had a 100-yard rusher for the second time this season as the 11th-ranked Mules jumped out to a 34-0 lead en route to a 41-13 win over Castle in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I matchup Friday night at the Knights' home field.

Jamin Vereen carried the rock 14 times for 143 yards and a 63-yard touchdown. Damarion Smith also had double-digit carries with 10 and finished with 23 yards. Smith had ran for 107 yards earlier in the season in a 24-20 loss to Moanalua at the end of August.

Kekoa Turangan also continued to relish in his role as the Mules quarterback after taking over for incumbent starter Kalei Akagi, who now lines up at receiver. Turangan finished 17 of 23 for 221 and three touchdowns, one of which went to Akagi for nine yards at the end of the first quarter.

Senior Jayzon Ramos led all pass-catchers with 90 yards and a 38-yard touchdown in the second quarter to put Leilehua up 27-0.

The Mules improved to 4-1 in the OIA and 6-1 overall. They'll have a week off before taking on Iolani (4-1 ILH, 6-1) on Oct. 5 at Aloha Stadium and closing out the regular season at Radford (0-4 OIA, 0-5) on Oct. 11.

Castle dropped to 2-2 but moves into a three-team tie for third place in the OIA Division I standings with Waipahu and Kailua. The Knights will take on undefeated Moanalua next Friday.
