St. John Bosco too much for Mililani

MILILANI — Just like the matchup between both teams in California a year ago, Mililani led early after scoring on its opening drive, but it was all St. John Bosco from there on out as the Braves overpowered the Trojans, 42-10, Saturday night at John Kauinana Stadium in a non-league matchup.

Top-rated class of 2020 quarterback and Clemson-commit DJ Uiagalelei had just seven incompletions as he passed for 341 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers — Beaux Collins (33 yards), Chedon James (41 yards) and Kris Hutson (25 yards). Uiagalelei also added a three-yard rushing score on a keeper up the middle in the second quarter.

Mililani received the opening kickoff and after quarterback Brendyn Agbayani Jr. took a 12-yard loss on a sack to set up fourth and 22, linebacker/punter Wynden Hoohuli took off to the right and converted for a first down that later led to a 22-yard field goal from Kaulanaaikaleoaukahiokala Navares.

The Braves put up 35 points before the Trojans added more points to their side of the scoreboard.

With possession near the top of the fourth quarter, Mililani's Agbayani Jr. hit Banks for a short pass but he was violently met by Bosco's JonJon Vaughns on a helmet-to-helmet hit. After being attended to be trainers, Banks was able to walk off the field on his own power, as Vaughns was penalized with flagrant targeting and was disqualified.

Emotions began to run a little high as the Trojans surged for a one-yard rushing TD from Malosi Sam to make it 35-10.

Rayshon Luke closed out the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown run with just over two minutes left in the game.

The two teams met up last August with St. John Bosco winning 52-14. Mililani had scored on a 47-yard pass from then-QB Dillon Gabriel to Kai Banks to open the game, but the Braves responded with an 80-yard touchdown run and never looked back.

The Trojans will have no rest as they'll gear up to take on another national-ranked team in Saint Louis. The two teams last played each other in last year's HHSAA Open Division State Championship game but have not met in the regular season since Mililani won 63-47 at the beginning of the 2014 season — for what was coach Cal Lee's first game back at Saint Louis as well as the varsity debut of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Since then, two scheduled regular season games were either cut short or canceled: first in 2016 when a power outage at John Kauinana Stadium prevented the night game from being continued and last season when the threat of Hurricane Lane canceled an entire weekend of matchups.
