KAPOLEI — A perfect storm of events helped the Farrington football team pick up its first win of the season Friday night.

The unranked Governors took an early 13-0 lead within the first five minutes of the game and dominated the trenches on both sides of the ball to stun No. 7 Kapolei, 22-8, at the Alvin Nagasako Sports Complex.

Calijah Mareko's 23-yard pick-six on Kapolei's first play from scrimmage and a muffed punt led to Raymond Millare's 3-yard scoring run helped give the early advantage to Farrington, who was outscored by its opponents — 142 to 6 — during the month of August.

With a 13-point lead in hand, the Governors (1-4 overall, 1-2 OIA Open) proceeded to control the line of scrimmage and the clock. Farrington totaled five sacks and rushed for 220 yards behind Millare's season-high 171 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.

"It was two critical errors; the pick-six by our quarterback and the muffed punt on the punt return that really put the game in their favor and the momentum," said Kapolei coach Darren Hernandez, whose team is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.
