ALA WAI — Sixth-ranked Iolani found itself trailing early for the first time in the young season, but as it did in its first two games, the Raiders racked up hits and runs for a late rout of Mid-Pacific, 18-8, in six innings Monday afternoon at Ala Wai Park.

It was Iolani's third mercy-rule win to start the season unbeaten at 3-0 — having defeated Damien, 38-0, and Sacred Hearts, 20-2.

The Raiders racked up 13 hits with Kalena Markham falling a home run shy of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with two runs and two runs batted in. Aleia Agbayani followed also with a 3-for-4 outing and two RBIs but she scored four times. Kai Barrett slammed a triple and a home run and reached home five times.

Markham also scored the game-ending run on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Raiders up by 10 runs.

Aleia Agbayani also made her first appearance on the mound in getting the start. She went five innings and gave up eight hits with four earned runs before giving way to her sister Ailana Agbayani, who went an inning with three hits and two earned runs given up.

Mid-Pacific came into the game at 2-0 after pulling off a 15-run comeback against Punahou that saw the Owls down 10-0 after four innings. That momentum led to a hot start on Darrian Kanno's two-run shot in the opening frame of the game.

But in the latter half of the first, Kanno traded strikeouts and walks on the mound to give up two runs to tie the game back up.

Iolani took an eight-run lead into the fifth inning but the Owls slapped the ball around to make it a 10-6 deficit. The Raiders again extended their lead and Mid-Pacific battled back in the top of the sixth to make it 12-8.

However, the Raiders eventually did the Owls in as Markham ripped her triple to center field before scoring in a six-run sixth inning to end the game.

Both teams next play Saturday with the Owls hosting Saint Francis and the Raiders playing Punahou.
