Unlike last year, this one was decided in regulation.
No. 2 Iolani, the two-time defending state champion, shut out No. 6 Moanalua, 3-0, in the opening round of The Queen's Medical Center Division I Girls Soccer State Championships at Kozuki Stadium Monday afternoon.
The Raiders (10-3-1) got goals from Sasha Asselbaye, Marea Lee and Kaitlyn Uemoto to advance to Thursday's quarterfinals against third-seeded Konawaena in a 3 p.m. match at Waipio Soccer Stadium.
It was the third straight year that Iolani and Na Menehune (9-3-1) met in the opening round of the state tournament. Two years ago Iolani won by a similar score, but last season saw the two teams play to a 0-0 deadlock after two regulations. The Raiders ultimately won in a shootout thriller, 9-8.
