No. 4 Maryknoll flexes on No. 6 Saint Francis

MANOA — Four Spartans players scored in double-digit figures with Marcus Tobin's 22 leading the way as No. 4 Maryknoll flexed on No. 6 Saint Francis, 65-52, to start Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I league play.

Makoto Kamata chipped in 14 points with three 3-pointers while Niko Robben and Kalai Akaka followed with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Maryknoll led the reigning two-time Division II state champion most of the way, and Saint Francis was delt a huge blow when two-time All-Hawaii Division II Player of the Year Kameron Ng exited the game near the top of the fourth quarter when he seemingly aggrivated his right foot.

The senior guard injured his right ankle just over a month ago in a game against Kailua on Nov. 30, but he had been playing (with a brace) since Dec. 18 for the start of the Iolani Classic.

Kameron Ng returned to the bench with crutches and ice on his right foot.

Still, the Saints, in their first game at the Division I level, hung around and closed the gap to as close as just seven points with two minutes remaining.

Kordel Ng turned it on late and had a game-high 28 points with three 3-pointers. Titus Liu had 12 points, all on three-point makes.

Maryknoll improved to 15-1 overall on season and will travel to No. 2 Iolani on Saturday, while Saint Francis hosts Saint Louis.
